![]() Colombia reports record foreign investment in the midst of world economic crisis Last April, the Colombian Central Bank (Banco de la República) released direct foreign investment figures for Colombia during the last trimester of the year: a record $10.564 billion US dollars between January and December of 2008. This record testifies to the confidence of investors in the country at a time when the world economy is reeling from significant economic reversals and showing signs of decreasing direct foreign investment flows. According to information provided by Proexport, Colombia is due to grow a full two points beyond the Latin American average in 2009 (IMF). This makes Colombia’s economy the least volatile in Latin America for the past three decades. Growth in 2007 totaled 7.7%. Foreign investment cited by the Central Bank goes beyond even that of 2005 when direct foreign investment reached $10.252 billion USD, due mainly to SABMiller’s entry onto the Colombian market with $4.7 billion USD.
