Colombia: blockbuster country / Colombia, the stage
Colombia, the stage
Colombia is, in a number of ways, a paradise; especially for producers and directors of film, television and advertising spots.

Enormously varied landscapes and climates
Beautiful, fine sand beaches; wild coastlines with a huge variety of plants and animals; rivers and creeks; tall mountains, paramos (Andean moors), snowy peaks; deserts and vast stretches of land with temperate climates where flora and fauna abound; huge ranches and small coffee, sugarcane, plantain, flower, palm, cattle and horse farms; vast, grandiose open landscapes and tiny villages hemmed in by tropical exuberance; and the possibility of filming or taping in cold, temperate, hot and torrid climates any time of the year.
Colonial villages and cities
Cartagena, Mompox, Santa Fe de Antioquia, Barichara, Villa de Leyva and many other cities and villages have preserved their 17th, 18th and 19th-century colonial architecture and the plazas, churches, manor houses, markets and cobblestone streets typical of the period. These villages and cities seem lost in time yet offer comfortable hotels and modern communications services and the infrastructure needed to host the large groups of people working on film, television and publicity productions.

Modern cities
There are large cities in Colombia such as Bogotá, the nation’s capital, with more than 8 million inhabitants, and Medellín, the country’s industrial capital, with more than 2 million inhabitants.  These cities are extremely diverse and enjoy booming cultural, industrial and business activity.  They are filled with a huge array of international and local settings: tall buildings, museums, art galleries, plazas, markets, colonial and modern neighborhoods, etc.
Architecture from a variety of eras
It’s possible to find in the same Colombian city preserved landmarks, estates, homes, buildings from a variety of eras such as the conquestand colonial periods, entire neighborhoods built in the 18th and 19th centuries, existing alongside very modern architecture.
Ethnically diverse population
Colombians are a mixed race.  Light-skinned Colombians predominate in certain regions, Afro-Colombians in others.  There are over eighty indigenous groups spread throughout the territory.  Inhabitants of cities and villages form a wide range of racial mixtures, which allows for wonderfully rich casting.

Similarities with other countries
Varied landscapes, urban settings, races and cultures make it possible to produce audiovisuals in Colombia that replicate landscapes and urban settings of other countries.
A wealth of talent
Colombia boasts a wealth of talent specialized in producing and directing television (one of the continent’s best television industries, exporting programs to over 80 countries), spots, feature films and documentaries: directors of photography, art directors, editors, animators, property masters/mistresses, costume designers, lighting designers, and actors, all very experienced.
Technical infrastructure
There are equipment rental and sales companies that provide cutting-edge film and hi-definition video equipment and technology to many Latin American countries.  Specialized post-production services, digital intermediate technology, color correction, special effects, sound engineering and 5.1 mixing in certified Dolby studios are all available in Colombia.
